Youth Club

p39The village youth club had always stayed upfront in the village development and its social, religious and cultural activities since its inception in the early fifties. This was the best way to keep the youth involved in the village activities. Below is a brief look at the progress of the youth club.
 

Period :  Approximate Period 1950 – 1962
Convener : Dhian Singh Machinewala
Members    Master Gurmail Singh (Bela) son of Nanta Singh, Avtar Singh son of Sham Singh Khoohwale, Piara Singh son of Milkhi, Bal Krishan (Bahlo) son of Sansar Chand, Piara Singh son of Dhana Singh, Sohan Singh Bansal and Malkit Singh son of Sham Singh and many others.

 

They discharged their full responsibility and involved other youth in sport. Our football teams (A, B and C) were known in the area and brought many trophies to the village.
 

From this club a sister club called Bhangra Club was also born in the mid 1950’s. To finance the Village Youth Club, Bhangra Club would perform bhangra dances at various functions in the surrounding villages and at lohri celebrations in the village. Master Gurmail Singh Panchhi and Piara Singh Roshan son of Dhana Singh were the organiser and general secretary respectively. Other members of the club were Master Davinder Singh, Master Sucha Singh, Gurkeerat Singh son of Kartar Singh Kalgianwala, Resham Singh son of Nanak Singh, Karnail Singh, Surinder Singh son of Hav. Chanan Singh, Sarwan Singh son of Ram Singh, Atma Singh son of Jaimal Singh, Gulzar Singh, Gurbax Singh son of Nihal Singh, Bhai Mohinder Singh and Tara Singh son of Mata Jaso.

Members Master Davinder Singh, Gurdish Singh, Jasbir Singh Shiri, Paramjit Singh Pamma, Kuldip Deepak, Jit Singh Zaildar, Sadhu Singh Zaildar, Amril Singhson of Lal Singh and and many others.

 
During this period football players of high caliber such as Jasbir Singh Shiri and Jagdish Singh played at Punjab level. The school was upgraded from middle to high school standard. The village roads were paved and Shaheedi tournament was started in the memory of Sohan Singh and Kuldip Singh who gave their lives for the country in 1965 War.

Members Sohan Singh Bansal, Amrik Singh Panch, Chain Singh, Sadhu Singh Zaildar, Amarjit Singh, Harvinder Singh, Ajit Singh Zaildar and many others.

 
Work on school improvements and Shaheedi tournaments continued. Later on Shaheed Chaman Lal son of Sawarna Ram was added who gave his life in Kargil Battle in Kashmir.
